Jesus’ Resurrection
This lesson looks at three things the resurrection of Jesus accomplishes for the believer:
- Jesus’ resurrection assures believers of His deity. Many can be skeptical of certain aspects of Jesus’ claim to be God. His virgin birth, his claim to be Messiah, and most of his miracles can be and were dismissed by doubters who wished to doubt. However, the empty tomb and the lack of a body are the most definitive evidences for Jesus as God’s Son.
- Jesus’ resurrection assures believers of their own resurrection. Since Jesus was raised from the dead his followers can rest in the certainty of their resurrection as well. This is the essence of spiritual hope and anticipation. No matter how long He waits, no matter what the condition of our physical dust – the God who raised up his Son will raise up all! The righteous hold this reality as a true with which we can “comfort one another.”
- Jesus’ resurrection assures believers a righteous judgment. We often jump to elements of fear and trembling produced when we think of eternal judgment. But for the believer, Jesus’ resurrection is the proof that the price has been paid and God’s punishing judgment satisfied. So those “in Christ” have assurance that they will be raised like Christ and judged as righteous because they are “in” him!
