Jesus’ Final Friday – Jewish Justice
Jesus is kissed. The disciples disappear. Jesus is bound and led away. The first stop will be at the house of Annas. He was the Roman appointed Jewish high priest. It is he who will begin the attempt to find some capital crime for which Jesus can be killed.
This study begins by examining the intricate details of the Jewish justice system. Developed over centuries, it was a meticulous system filled with safeguards guaranteeing a defendant the highest level of justice. So much so, that Jewish regulations are the foundation for America’s judicial practices.
All of this stands only to extenuate the injustice done to Jesus. Annas will seek to find a charge for which Jesus can be criminally found guilty. His function is much like a grand jury seeking to determine if sufficient evidence is available for a charge.
