Jesus’ Last Tuesday (02)

Coronated on Sunday.  Cleaning the temple on Monday.  Powerful teachings on Tuesday.  Our look at the last week of Jesus’ physical life is intended to establish His qualifications to be the anchor for every life.

Last time we saw Jesus using three parables to illustrate the hypocrisy and superficial spirituality of the temple leadership.  Needless to say, such public ridicule is taken offensively and perhaps that is Jesus’ intention as He allows His  “it is time” mentality to take charge.

This lesson will look at what the Jewish leaders do about the pointed lessons within those three parables.  Three different groups or individuals will take a turn at attempting to trip up the Heavenly instructor.

  • The Pharisees and Herodians  – will unite with a question about paying taxes
  • The Sadducees –  attempt to ensnare Jesus into a theological discussion over the resurrection
  • A Lawyer  –  asks about the most important of God’s commands

Jesus answers each query in such a way that even the ill-motived questioners are silenced and “marvel” at His answers.

This lesson ends by looking at some messages we can glean from the Master and His dealings with these tricksters.
