The Power of Grace (3)

The book of Nehemiah has revealed a number of truths relative to the power of God’s grace.   That power was first demonstrated in the connectivity “all the people” demonstrated in seeking to revive their spiritual well being.   Chapter eight reveals that “all the people” assembled, listened, saw, stood, responded, and wept.

However, even amid their spiritual openness the people did not experience the completeness and wholeness of God’s gracious power.  They got stuck even within their spiritual progress.   Stuck in sorrow and grief.  Rather than their revived reconnection with the Creator bringing them joy, it put them in a place of sorrow.

God, however, does not allow them to stay stuck in their sorrow.  The priests quiet the people and challenge them to let the “joy of the Lord be their strength.”  Get past their sense of guilt and live in the joyful strength of the Lord!  This lesson will look at how they opened themselves to that full experience of Grace.  We will discover how they moved beyond rote actions into the realities of God’s grace.
