The Face of Grace
What does God’s grace look like? Sadly, our view of God’s grace can easily become a grotesque deformity of what it really is. This lesson examines two things about the face of grace:
- The Problem – Our human mentality seems tied to aligning God’s grace only with those things we consider gracious. Situations entering our lives which bring well being, blessing, and goodness (as we evaluate them) cause us to praise the God of all grace! Yet, those items we deem less desirable, full of pain, or heaping with hurt do not get viewed as being a part of God’s grace. This dilemma is common even amid those who desire to live fully within God’s grace.
- The Plea – Most believers have had occasion to make honest pleas to the Father expressing their desire for relief, comfort and peace. At times such a request is granted in the affirmative. The blessing is received, joy abounds and the believer travels down their daily road with great thankfulness for experiencing God’s graciousness. But what happens when the request is made and no answer results? The request is repeated and again nothing. What happens when one concludes that God is not delaying a request but denying it? The great Apostle Paul had just such an experience. His repeated plea was denied. What was Paul asking of his Father? For what was he pleading? This lesson begins (continued next week) to speculate what Paul may have been longing to receive from God.
