Commitment… Spiritual Moments or Spirit’s Movement?
We have all had those unforgettable spiritual moments. The worship was exceptionally moving. The experience at Bible camp was so extra spiritual it is burned forever in our minds. The group gathering was extra intuitive and the sharing of struggles and successes became the impetus for a life-altering spiritual moment. I love such moments!
Have you ever considered, however, that such spiritual moments, besides being temporary and infrequent, may actually fetter one to a surface level of commitment? The hunger for such spiritual moments may leave us longing for that which will never satisfy!
This lesson will explore some of the hazards that exist within spiritual moments and how an exaggerated dependency upon them may not only hinder commitment, but even accelerate a greater commitment to self.
When analyzing commitment it is important to go deep. To dig into places we often fail to travel. For the ultimate level of spiritual commitment is not tied to spiritual moments but is harnessed to the Spirit’s movement.
While the principles of being led by the Spirit, walking in the Spirit, and living by the Spirit are all Biblical they also bring most believers into a litany of questions. How does the Spirit lead? How do I know if I am walking by the Spirit? Am I in some fashion extinguishing the Spirit’s movement in my life? I admit I have very few answers for these plaguing queries and this study will not attempt to explain the unexplainable fashion in which God may use His Spirit to accomplish his tasks. It will, however, propose a knowable, traceable and testable principle which will help one determine if they are living in the Spirit’s movement.
Are you satisfied with spiritual moments or is there evidence that you are longing for the Spirit’s movement in your spiritual walk?
