A Safe Church Remembers…
It is no easy task to undertake the creation and maintenance of a safe church environment! Human frailties, as well as efforts of the evil one, are always at work to diminish much of what is important in providing for a safe church. This lesson urges believers to remember three “anchor truths” which when put into practice provide a workable catalyst to create a comfortable church atmosphere.
In 2 Tim. 2:8-13 Paul outlines those three truths: First, remember Jesus! The son of David was dead, but now he lives! Every Christian must have a continually present “gnawing” concerning the presence of the Prince of peace.
Secondly Paul says he “endured all things for the sake of those chosen.” This anchor truth demands that believers see a much larger picture than their own wants and desires. They are to see and even be controlled by what is good for the entire spiritual team. Self-discipline is a necessary tool to get beyond the negative judgments believers often pass on one another. Such thoughts must be captured, tried, and surrendered!
The final anchor truth is for Christians to remember their reward. Even amid those times when one takes it on the cheek for the good of the team, ultimate victory is available. For as Paul puts it, “those who have died with Christ will live with Christ.”
As you consider this lesson, ask yourself how much each of these truths represent a part of your own spiritual walk. Is the presence of Jesus ever constant? Is the good of the team your ultimate goal? Does your trust in God’s rewards empower your efforts at self-denial and self-sacrifice?
