The First Church
Imagine that you have no knowledge of what a “church” is. You have never been to church, seen a church, or even heard there is such a thing. What conceptions would be painted on the empty canvas of your mind if the only hues available were those discovered by a thorough study of the book of Acts?
This book covers the first three decades of the early church. It reveals much about the characteristics, nature, and atmosphere of the first-century Christians who made up the body of the “called out” (literal meaning of “church”). This lesson will identify four general elements that scream out as consistent elements within the pages of Luke’s history record.
Our study moves from an examination of what the church was to questions about what the church has become. Are the churches of today an accurate representation of the church of yesteryear? Are we replicating the attributes of early followers of Jesus? Some worthy questions for those who want to regain the qualities and fervor of the original brethren.
