Jesus’ Final Monday – part 2

During the last week of His physical life the Son of God pulls out all stops.  He knows the time has come.  He will be known by all to be the Son of God!  They will accept that truth or deny it but there will be no neutrality.

He arranged His own coronation on Sunday because the time has come.  He curses an unfruitful fig tree early Monday morning because of its hypocrisy.  Then he proceeds into Jerusalem, making His way to the temple.  While in the temple, He will again demonstrate that He functions with the authority of the Father.  His actions and words all illustrate – the time has come!

Following the cleansing of the temple, a group of Greeks will be brought to Jesus  by Andrew and Philip.  They have heard of this Jesus and desire to listen to what He has to say.  However, His teaching on this occasion will be different than that of times past.  For today He reflects the pressing perspective – the time has come.  He tells of His coming death and how, like a seed, He will be buried – for that is the only way to produce fruit. Specifically, the fruit that will throw down the ruler of this world.   Those hearing His message are invited to follow and serve Him if they wish to receive the Father’s approval but they must follow the light quickly for it will not be among them much longer.

The heaviness of His instruction causes Jesus’ heart to become troubled.  It is at this point that He turns to the Father and requests that He do what is necessary to glorify Himself.  It is at this point that there is celestial talk.  The voice of God offering confirmation to the Son of His love.  It brings relief to the burdened heart of Jesus, who following God’s appraisal, returns to teaching the gathered students.   The teacher will then leave and return to Bethany.
