Mystery – The Church As Architecture
We are exploring a variety of symbols and figures used in Scripture to explain the nature of the God’s new Zion – the church. This lesson begins to look at some architectural pictures which help broaden our comprehension of the Kingdom.
Paul in 1 Cor. 3 references the church as “God’s building.” He then focuses on a couple of issues which that truth reveals:
- There is a single foundation upon which all spiritual building takes place – Jesus Christ! No other foundation can be laid. All successful construction must take place upon the spiritual foundation which has already been put in place. Many today seem intent on finding some unique spiritual wow factor which extends beyond foundation boundaries. When foundational framing is ignored the structure built is destined for failure.
- There are a variety of materials which God’s builders utilize in their personal construction work. Paul identifies the range as being gold, silver, precious stones, wood and straw. Three points are made concerning those materials: 1) they are individual, 2) they will be identifiable, and 3) they will be inspected.
