Mystery – the Church as Horticulture

God, in His wisdom, chose not to make a spiritual checklist which would provide the specifics concerning the new Zion He was constructing.  Rather, He chose to present multiple portraits or paintings which would provide symbols by which the essence of the church could be seen.  Thus far we have glanced at portraits portraying the church in a nautical term: a boat and one that illustrates the church within the symbol of unleaven bread.

Our study continues by looking into pictures depicting the church in horticultural terms.  Specifically, this lesson will look at two used within Scripture.

First, Paul refers to the church as the “field” of God.   This field analogy shows God as the owner and grower of all crops within that field.

Secondly, Jesus discusses how He is the vine planted by God and the individuals of the church the branches grafted into that vine.  The primary lesson within this word painting is that branches need abide in the vine to remain alive and productive.“
