How Did Jesus Endure All His Misfortunes?

Jesus suffered greatly during His time on earth!  He was plagued by physical misfortunes.  Loss of a father figure, poverty and physical abuse to name a few.  He also had to bear the emotional misfortune of rejection.  His life experience found him rejected by family, friends, followers as well as foes.  He also endured spiritual suffering.  He drank of and emptied the ugly cup of human sinfulness when He became sin.  He suffered great spiritual misfortune so He could fill that empty cup with every spiritual blessing.

But all this brings us to a question with eternal weightiness:  How did Jesus endure all His misfortunes?  What enabled Him to be in, see beyond, and work through all the suffering?  This lesson will look at a New Testament text which offers some answers to that question.

We will first look at how Jesus could have responded to the variety of sufferings inflicted upon Him.  He could have become deceitful.  He could have retaliated and He could have made threats.  However, we find that He never made such choices.

Rather, Jesus entrusted Himself to Him who judges righteously!  The solution for His every type and time of suffering was the same.  The success Jesus achieved over misfortune can always be traced to the manner in which He brought His suffering-self into the hands of another.

The lesson will end with some specific lessons adapted for us from the “example” found in the Suffering Servant.   The Son found a single means of experiencing success within suffering.  We can, likewise enjoy success during painful times of suffering, when we stay in step with the strategies used by our suffering Savior.
