Jesus Responds to Satan’s Second Temptation

“Turn these stones into bread.  Don’t you know God has forced you into the desert and then deserted you?  If He hasn’t why are you so hungry?  So neglected?  So alone?  You cannot trust such a God.  You cannot depend upon Him.”

So, went the logic (using that word here give me pause) of Satan during the first trial of Jesus.  How will Jesus respond?   With the word, within His own full humility, and with great resolve and dedication.

So, Satan tries yet another tactic.  He backs up, gains steam, and hits Him again but this time instead of hitting Jesus when he’s down, he takes Him up.  Up to a high and holy place.  There he misuses Scripture in an attempt to entice Jesus to force God into showing He really cares for His beloved Son.

“Throw himself down and allow God’s angels to rescue You.  He’s promised to do that!  Make Him prove He will!

The study today examines Jesus’ response to this second trial tactic of Satan.  Jesus will again allow the Word to be the source and supplier for His full and complete defeat of the evil one.  He will do so by establishing the Scripture as:

  • The AUTHORITY to which He holds Himself accountable.
  • The outline of the ACTIONS in which He must engage.
  • The truth by which holistic ADJUDICATION will take place in His life.

Jesus’ success in dealing with the deceiver is totally discovered within the victory of Scripture and such a masterful design is worthy of imitating by those whose life objective is to “Walk as Jesus Walked.”
