Satan’s First Attack in Measuring Jesus

Imitating the walk of Jesus is a daunting task for those who wish to be His followers!  In previous studies we have watched as Jesus planted a footprint of meekness and one of mission.  Today we continue to discover how the walk of Jesus was measured by trial – specifically His trial in the wilderness.  Jesus literally, was directed to walk into a place of testing and trial.

We find the Devil willing to use his most powerful tactics to take Jesus down.  The plan of his first assault is going to reveal much about how he attacks all those seeking to serve God.   We will expose how:

• He CAME to Jesus –  his coming is certain, it possesses a particular character, and revolves around a set of circumstances.
• He CHALLENGED the hungry Son of Man – by attempting to create doubt, a doubt which he sought to nurture with  pride.
• He COMMANDED Jesus to turn stone into bread –  prompted by the suggestion that God had forsaken Him,  rooted in an enticement that somehow Jesus needed to prove Himself,  motivated with a manipulation for Jesus to rearrange His priorities, and hidden within a deceptive perversion of truth.

This study is sprinkled throughout with “faith truths” – realities concerning our own encounters with the tempter.
