P.C.’s from Philippians
We hear much today about the importance of being “Politically Correct.” Whatever is spoken, written or portrayed in visual form must be siphoned through the subjective and fluid filter of political correctness. Obviously, with such personal subjectivity as the standard, there is nothing immune to individual and/or collective criticism from those who view themselves as the PC police. This lesson will look to God’s standard within the book of Philippians to challenge those wishing to live by some unchangeable and “inspired” P.C.’s.
Having just concluded a study from one of Paul’s emotional prison letters (2 Timothy), this lesson provides a quick overview of another letter penned from his prison days – Philippians. Paul began the church in Philippi on his second missionary journey following a special vision calling him to come over into Macedonia (Acts 16). The first city in which he proclaimed the good news was Philippi. He first shared the gospel with some ladies gathered at the river, then a jailer and his family, and thus began a special relationship with a new body of Christ.
This study will examine four important PC’s found within the book of Philippians. :
- Paul’s Connection with both the Savior and the Philippian saints
- Paul’s Confidence in the saints and within every situation life would hand him (prison, persecution, provisions of the Spirit, and prospects of his death)
- Paul’s Cheer and joy was made full when the saints followed the example of Jesus by humbly serving each other, when they stayed focused on the joy of their salvation, and when they rejoiced in their Savior
- Paul’s Craving was for the saints to be synergized in their labor, satisfied in every circumstance and live in the strength of Christ
As you listen, realize that God is calling His children today to live by these P C ‘s! His longing is that they share a unique connection! His desire is that they possess a confidence in each other and in every situation of life! God’s children should let their life joy grow from service, salvation and a Savior focus! The household of heaven-on-earth ought to enjoy the synergism that comes when joining their talents and energies with that of other Christians, feast on the eternal satisfaction of having a heavenly citizenship and know that they can do all things through Christ who strengthens them!
Short book. Great message. Huge challenge! And it’s all PC!
