In the Beginning God…
This year our lessons will be drawn from a daily Bible reading schedule the church has been challenged to follow. Sunday sermons will be drawn from the texts that have been read through the week. If you would like to join us, the reading schedule is available on the our website “tool bar.”
This lesson focuses on why Moses began the book of beginnings with the very beginning. Why go back to creation and lay out the activities of that week so specifically? This study will share a couple of possible answers. Specifically, we will look at…
- How the long enslavement in Egypt had caused the people to forget the God of beginnings. They need a reintroduction.
- The Israelites, though free from slavery, still stood in need of a new beginning. The old patterns and ways were well ingrained. Thus, the ease of worshipping a golden calf as the deity bringing them out of Egypt. But how could they be any different? They need a new beginning – redemption. Who better to offer that than the One of all beginnings.
