Jesus’ Final Thursday

In our examining of Jesus’ final week of physical life we come to Thursday.  Our study contains two primary points.

First, the emotional state of Jesus.   The Gospel record reveals Jesus making this statement:  “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you…”  (Lk. 22:15).   In the Greek of the New Testament, “earnestly” and “desired” are the same word.  So, Jesus statement literally is “I have desired with desire to eat…”   This statement says volumes about Jesus’ emotional need on this particular day.  We will sight six possible reasons that Christ may have a strong emotional attachment connected to the observance of this particular Passover. 

Secondly, it is a day to prepare for the Passover.  Jesus will give specific instructions regarding the detailed preparations needed for this Jewish feast.  A large upper room will be secured and all needed elements prepared.  Application of those preparatory steps will be made to our own attempts to feast with the Master.
