Jesus Walked in Melioration (part III)

Previous lessons have outlined the PROCESS and PRACTICE of forgiveness found within the record of Luke in chapter seventeen.  This study will examine the POWER of forgiveness.

In Luke 17:7-10 Jesus shares an illustration which outlines a number of truths concerning the power of forgiveness.  Among those are:

  • Forgiveness is empowered when we look beyond our own weariness, exasperation, and pain.
  • Power is found within forgiveness when servants submit to the Master.
  • Forgiveness’s power is threatened when servants hold some unreal anticipation of bypassing obedience to the Master’s forgiveness command.
  • The power of forgiveness is not served when servants believe their obedience creates some special recognition or calls for a level of thanks from the Master.
  • When forgiveness is viewed as the servant’s obedient “duty” it allows deity to display Their power rather than relying on the human strength that might be created within forgiveness.

So, what hinders the tremendous power available within forgiveness?  The answer is:  Us!  This lesson offers some input on exactly how our limitations shackle the divine forgiveness power.
